Our Residents and Staff Celebrated LGBT+ History Month in Style

As part of LGBT+ History Month, our residents and staff were busy making colourful additions to our refuges across the North West and taking part in themed activities.

A staff member put together an in-depth LGBT+ history quiz for us all to test our collective knowledge whilst enjoying coffee and cake. We also hosted a t-shirt making workshop, wrote poetry and created rainbow bunting to decorate our shared spaces with.

The quiz helped to open up conversations around various LGBT+ topics, allowing all involved to gain new insights about the history and barriers often faced by those who identify as LGBT+.

LGBT+ History Month focuses on raising awareness and promoting equality and diversity; here at SafeNet, we recognise the additional challenges faced by people who are at risk of or are escaping domestic abuse within the LGBT+ community.

We understand that families and ex-partners can perpetrate abuse using the excuse of a person’s sexuality, and that transgender people can often experience higher hidden levels of abuse than they may in cisgender relationships and are here to support anyone who needs it.
